National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB)

As you know the DES requires us to report all children’s absences in excess of 20 days. From January 2010 the BOM will issue a formal letter to all parents whose children fall into this category. The BOM will also issue a letter to parents if their child’s absence has reached 15 days or more. Any missed days will almost certainly affect a child’s progress and, should absences be frequent, it may be possible that your child will not be ready to progress to the next class at the end of the school year as he/she will have missed too much of the class curriculum. We understand that children are sometimes ill but these days are still counted towards the maximum of 20. This is beyond the control of the BOM. NB: A note must be sent in following every absence.
