School year 2019 – 2020

5th Class:
Worked extremely hard at a new initiative called the YEA Award (The Young Environmentalist Award) We submitted an excellent project all about Climate Change and 5 simple ways we can reduce the use of Single use plastic in Ireland. They created storybooks, bin awareness stickers, posters, upcycled creations out of plastic, made an awareness brochure, made plans for a park clean up and wrote letters to local business trying to steer them away from plastics such as ketchup packets. The teachers and children submitted a huge application, PowerPoint presentation and Video Log to a panel of judges and are awaiting to hear if they will be shortlisted for the the next stages of the Award up in Dublin. Well Done 5th Class.

YEA Award

5th Class are currently working for the YEA Awards (Young Environmentalist Award). We have taken the topic of Climate change and made 5 groups within the classroom. Each group is coming up with an action or idea to help promote awareness about little changes that we can make either at home or in school to do our bit in the fight against global warming. We have completed an eye opening Greenhouse Effect experiment and several discussions to help understand what is going on in our world at the moment. For our project we will be making posters, videos and logs of our ideas and work. Mrs. Copeland and Ms. Furney
